Topic: Living Sacrifice
Scripture: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” Romans 12:1.
MESSAGE:
There are many kinds of sacrifices that we can offer as believers. According to Hebrews 13:15-16 we can offer a sacrifice of praise. Praise is something that we can offer to God with our lips. We can also offer a sacrifice of generosity. Sharing our resources with others and doing good pleases God. This sharing must extend even to our enemies. Scripture encourages us to feed them when they are hungry and give them a drink when they are thirsty. Doing what the Lord commands of us will help us to be in a good relationship with Him.
Paul in Rom 12:1 urges us to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice. God does not only want our works, He wants us. It is possible to do all kinds of works but not give ourselves to Him. Be holy and blameless. In Deut 15:21 the Lord told the children of Israel not to offer any sacrifice with any defect. We may be born again yes, but we also need to learn to live a life that honours Him. We need to lay our will on the altar before Him and ask Him to use us for His glory. We should therefore commit to obeying Him, knowing that the Lord knows how best to lead us despite any hardships we face.
However, we cannot be a living sacrifice to him when our hearts are not right with him. When our lives are set in order before God and our actions are pleasing in his sight, the Lord accepts our life, a living sacrifice by sending his anointing upon us and making us usable vessels for his glory. As a Christian seek to live out your faith and exercise your gifts in a way that best contributes to the body of Christ!
PRAYER:
Our ever-faithful Father, we thank you for loving us so dearly to the extent of sending your son to die for our sins. We pray that you help us to live in a manner that pleases you. Presenting our whole self to you with all that we are including the bodies you have given us. So that we may be a living sacrifice that is holy and pleasing to you, in Jesus’ name Amen.
