TOPIC: Repairing the Altar

SCRIPTURE: 1 Kings 18:30 Then Elijah said to all the people, “come near to me”. So, all the people came to him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord which had been torn.

MESSAGE
Elijah the prophet called on the people to come near him, his reason was not to exalt himself but rather to help the people see that the Lord was a true God. He knew that there once stood a strong altar that the children of God would come and offer sacrifices to God but it had been broken and so he wanted to revive that.

Today many of us have broken altars which need repairing. Like Elijah did, we too need to repair our broken altar. We need to set our own lives right by allowing God to work in us. We have inadequacies and offenses that have caused our hearts to harden and the altar upon which the fire of God needs to be burning is found in a broken state. This prevents us from offering a sacrifice that will be acceptable before God. So, before offering a sacrifice, this broken life needs to be repaired first.

Let us take time to reflect on our lives to see where we have fallen. God wants us to repair His altars in our lives just as He commanded Elijah to do. Altars speak of testimonies and worship to the Lord. Do not tear down altars, do not quit and walk away when the going gets tough. Remain in, repair, and build up altars in our lives, family, church as well as the nation.

What are you doing to repair and build up altars for the Lord?

PRAYER
Dear Father, I come to you acknowledging of my wrongdoing. You have revealed to us the need to repair the altars of our hearts, lives and families that have broken down. Help us to put our old life to death and exchange a new life in Jesus so that we can have the life you have always meant for us in Jesus’ name, Amen.
